UTSA reached a program milestone in dramatic fashion, earning the 100th victory in school history with a high-scoring win over Texas State in a game filled with explosive plays, turnovers and momentum swings.
The Roadrunners struck first after Texas State opened with the football. UTSA quickly capitalized on an early defensive takeaway, then moved into scoring position behind quarterback Owen McCown. The drive ended with a touchdown pass to Brandon Young Jr., giving UTSA the early advantage.
Texas State answered immediately.
Torrance Burgess broke free for a long run that moved the Bobcats deep into UTSA territory, and Savion Jackson finished the drive with a touchdown run that tied the game. The response established the tone for an afternoon in which neither team was able to maintain control for long.
UTSA mixed conventional offense with creativity.
One of the game’s most memorable plays came on a double pass that left wide receiver Micah Anderson uncovered downfield. The Roadrunners executed the trick play cleanly, and Anderson walked into the end zone.
The UTSA defense then added points of its own.
A Texas State pass was tipped into the hands of Cameron Upshaw Jr., who returned the interception toward the goal line and into the end zone. The play added another major momentum swing in a game already producing them at a rapid pace.
Texas State continued to respond.
Quarterback Brad Jackson helped move the Bobcats downfield, and Chris Dawn Jr. produced one of the game’s best individual plays with a difficult touchdown reception despite tight coverage.
The Bobcats also leaned on their running game, with Amarian Peterson powering into the end zone on another scoring drive. A successful kick later put Texas State back in front, 26-24.
UTSA refused to let the game get away.
McCown continued directing an offense that consistently created space, and the Roadrunners regained the lead when Brandon High Jr. broke through the Texas State defense for a 25-yard touchdown run.
Blocking was a major part of the play, with UTSA creating a clear running lane and allowing High to reach the second level without having to avoid immediate contact.
The final defining moment came on another unconventional play by Texas State.
A backward pass hit the ground and remained live, allowing UTSA to recover the football deep in Bobcat territory. The turnover effectively ended Texas State’s final opportunity and sealed the victory.
For UTSA, the result carried significance beyond the scoreboard.
The win marked the 100th victory in program history, another benchmark for a football program that has developed rapidly since beginning competition in 2011.
The game itself also offered a snapshot of what has helped UTSA grow: aggressive play-calling, opportunistic defense and enough offensive balance to respond when momentum shifts.
Texas State had plenty of answers throughout the afternoon, but UTSA ultimately made the final decisive plays.
And on this day, those plays were enough to put win No. 100 in the record book.
