This year marks a significant milestone for the San Antonio Botanical Garden as it celebrates its 45th anniversary with the unveiling of a stunning collection of murals. The exhibition, aptly named Reflections of Nature, will run from March 8 through October 27, 2025, and is expected to turn the garden’s 38 acres into a vibrant outdoor gallery, showcasing the artistic talents of Texas-based muralists.
Local Artists Bring Diversity to Life
The initiative features twelve unique murals that explore themes of nature, plants, animals, and the rich tapestry of human life found in South Texas. Inspired heavily by the legendary works of Mexican muralists like Diego Rivera and José Clemente Orozco, these pieces will infuse local cultural, personal narratives and a spirit of diversity into the garden.
The artists involved include names like Mitsumasa Overstreet, who will create pieces rooted in meticulous research, and Kat Cadena, whose work promises to be a colorful ode to the local flora and fauna. As visitors stroll through the garden, they will encounter not just murals but also a listening sculpture crafted from salvaged instruments and interactive installations that showcase colored glass panes and uniquely shaped benches.
